My Google alert for “hazing” led me to an article by the Stop Hazing group under the direction of Dr. Elizabeth Allan.

The mission of StopHazing is to promote safe school, campus and organizational climates through research, information sharing and the development of data-driven strategies for hazing prevention.

In 2008, the team did the most significant piece of research that I have found so far.  You can download the paper here “Hazing in View: College Students at Risk“.  The chart below shows hazing rates for different groups.  The first thing that struck me was hazing of athletes tops the chart at 74%, but what is truly unbelievable is that hazing is not just for frat boys and athletes.  The bottom two groups, Academic Club and Honor Society, have hazing rates of 28% and 20% respectively.
